It has been a slow couple of months for the Pug Farm, but weep no more! We will be tending the grounds with regularity from now on.

In the world of pug news, we have one month until the Westminster Kennel Club dog show! Although last year, the best in show award went to a bull terrier, we have high hopes for 2007!

Check out the 2006 breed results for some beautiful pug specimens.

From the site: "The Pug is one of the oldest breeds of dog, originating in China some 700 years B.C. Their presence was noted in Holland, England, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Russia as early as the 15th & 16th centuries. Their primary purpose has always been exclusively for the companionship and amusement of their people. Pugs combine a cocky confidence with a friendly, sensitive nature. They are great with children and thoroughly relish playtime. They are small yet sturdy, rough and yet sensitive and sincere. Pugs are extremely friendly, uninhibited, delightful, comical little characters. Pugs come in two colors, fawn and black."

Another example of pugs in popular culture, the Cartoon Network feature "The Life and Times of Juniper Lee".

Monroe (right), the enchanted dog, and Ray Ray Lee.

"Monroe Connery Boyd Carlyle McGregor Scott Lee V (Monroe for short, voiced by Carlos Alazraqui) is an enchanted dog that speaks with a Scottish accent (a la Shrek). He is quite educated in the world of magic, having been alive for several centuries and assisting each Te Xuan Ze for nearly that entire time. Despite his knowledge, his ability to actually use magic or magical devices is fairly limited, due to his lack of grasping hands or opposable thumbs. Monroe has been magically enhanced, allowing him to be understood by those who can see through the magic barrier. Anyone else listening to him will only hear barking. He is also lactose intolerant." Back to our regularly scheduled programming...

Today's pug feature is a cameo by one our favorite wrinkled friends in the recent Sophia Coppola film Marie Antoinette. Mops the pug was the favorite pet of Marie Antoinette before her marriage to Louis XVI at age 15.
